What: Welcoming week

When: September 15 – 25 –a nationwide opportunity for us to come together as neighbors and celebrate each other.

Siouxland events include:

  • September 17 – Citizenship Day Celebration at Mary Treglia (900 Jennings Street) – Tours at 7:45am and 4pm; open house all day; Citizenship Trivia (see if you can pass the test!).
  • September 21 – Citizenship Clinicat Mary Treglia (immigration attorneys will prepare naturalization applications for prequalified clients)
  • September 21 – 9am, 12pm, and 3pm – Naturalization Informational Sessions for potential candidates for naturalization.  Hosted by Unity in Action at Mary Treglia, 900 Jennings Street
  • September 25 – 4:30pm – Immigration Simulation at Mary Treglia. Great opportunity to get a glimpse of the challenges faced by those wishing to make the US their home. PRE-REGISTRATION STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. Child care and food available

Why: Small Grants of up to 1500 to local Community-Based Organizations-request must focus on 1/3 issues. Housing/Homelessness, Heathy/food Access, Mental Health. No reporting requirements at this grant level.

 

What: Volunteer Management-Training Series (Volunteer Centers of Iowa)

Who: Volunteer Coordinators and Managers

When: Sept. 20th – Nov. 29th, 2018- 9:00- 10:30 am

Why: Your involvement in this training series will connect you with other volunteer coordinators and managers in Iowa to provide an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of planning, recruitment, placement, orientation, supervision, and evaluation.

 

What: Who You A.R.E Matters! – (Beyond the Bell)

Who: Staff who want to learn, discuss, and practice intervention positive strategies in managing and changing inappropriate behavior.

Where: Howard Johnson Hotel Conference Room 707 4th St., Sioux City, IA

When: Friday, Sept. 28th 8:30 am -3:30 pm (Lunch provided)

What: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (Wear Jeans in OCT and donate in support of CSADV services)

Where: CSADV would like to invite everyone to join their efforts by promoting a “Jeans Day” at your place of employment during the month of Oct.

When: Pick a day or several where employees can wear blue jeans to work for a $5.00 donation to CSADV

September 13 Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended on September 13, what a wonderful meeting. We had Rebecca Krohn with the Siouxland Community Foundation and Heather Hennings with the United Way Siouxland. They both shared about “Resource Sharing” and the positive impact it has in supporting each other and the children, youth, families, and communities we all serve. We also heard from Dr. Cyndi Hanson with North East Community College about collaborating to build Community Child Care Solutions, Erica DeLeon with One Siouxland about Welcoming week activities coming up that will include all of our communities, and lastly Brenda Sale, she shared about the collaboration with Voices for Foods.
